Critics gave Godzilla: King of the Monsters mixed reviews when it opened in theaters on May 31, 2019. They praised its visual effects, action scenes, cinematography, and musical score, but they also didn't like its plot, pacing, tone, or characters. The movie didn't do well at the box office. Because Godzilla's radiation levels are rising, Mark organizes a team to rescue Madison and flee the city before it's too late. To rescue Godzilla, Mothra comes, but is caught by Rodan. She beats him, but is damaged.

Mothra sacrifices herself and transmits her energy to Godzilla as Ghidorah prepares to slay him. In order to thwart Godzilla's invasion of Earth, Mark, Emma and Madison restart the Orca. As a result, Mark, Madison, and the rest of the Monarch crew had time to flee the scene. A freshly strengthened Godzilla overcomes Ghidorah in the final battle. The Titans, led by Rodan, assemble before Godzilla and submit to his authority.

It was announced in April 2015 that Aaron Taylor-Johnson would not be returning to reprise his role in the sequel and that his participation was contingent on the choice of co-star Emily Edwards. Legendary Pictures announced in October 2015 that Godzilla and Kong will face off in a picture named Godzilla vs. Kong, which was scheduled for release in 2020. Emma tells Jonah this, but Jonah turns his back on her. Madison steals the Orca and goes to Fenway Park on her own. She sends out the frequency that is strong enough to draw the Titans to that place. Ghidorah and Godzilla show up, and they keep going on the rampage across the city while Madison runs for cover.

A Mothra egg has been discovered, allowing her to return to Skull Island, which is documented in newspaper articles during the credits. There are a few more cave drawings, including one depicting a Godzilla vs. Kong battle.

After the credits, on Isla De Mara, Jonah and his men pursue a guy who presents them with one of Ghidorah’s heads. For an unclear reason, Jonah claims he intends to steal it.
